ICE OUT! NYC

The mission of the ICE Out! NYC Coalition is to stop the pipeline to deportation in New York City by passing and strengthening legislation and policies that restrict the City from colluding with ICE and from using our own city resources to funnel people to detention and deportation.

Current steering committee members include: Immigrant Defense Project, Bronx Defenders, Families for Freedom, the New York Civil Liberties Union, the New York Immigration Coalition, Make the Road NY, Asian American Federation, New Yorkers for the Public Interest

The NYC Trust Act (Int 214, Council Member Shahana Hanif)

New York City has long-standing values around how we as a city treat, support and respect immigrants within our community, who are an inseparable part of the fabric of our city. As a result, over the course of many years our city has codified these values in local legislation that protects our communities from having their information shared with federal immigration enforcement agencies. This is key for fostering trust between immigrant communities and our local agencies, and to protect from racial profiling and abuses of power. Despite critical laws we have passed over the past dozen years to preserve our city resources to serve New Yorkers, not put them in harms’ way,  there is currently no way to hold city agencies accountable for infringing on the rights of New Yorkers.

However, the NYC Trust Act (Int 214, Council Memer Shahana Hanif) would protect our longstanding sanctuary laws in NYC from being undermined – whether by the federal administration or any mayoral administration – and ensure compliance that New Yorkers deserve, by creating a private right of action to hold the City accountable.
