Congressional Letter Comes As Sponsors and Supporters Build Momentum to Pass NY4All in Final Days of Session
June 10, 2025
Albany, N.Y.-– With momentum building to pass the New York for All Act by the end of the legislative session in Albany this week, nine members of the New York Congressional delegation sent a letter to state elected officials urging them to pass the bill and protect state residents from the Trump Administration’s “deportation dragnet.”
The bill sponsors are working to move the vital legislation through the State Senate and Assembly before the end of session on June 12th.
The members of Congress, whose districts stretch from New York City to Albany sent the letter to Governor Hochul, New York State Senate Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins and State Assembly Speaker Heastie urging them to pass the bill into law.
As the Trump Administration’s onslaught of attacks on immigrant communities intensifies by the day, we unequivocally express our support for the New York for All Act (“NY4All”) and call on the state legislature to pass it immediately this session,” the members of Congress said in the letter.
The letter was led by Representative Nydia Velázquez and signed by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, George Latimer, Jerrold Nadler, Adriano Espaillat, Paul Tonko, Yvette Clarke, Grace Meng, and Ritchie Torres.
The push to pass NY for All this session comes as the Trump Administration has stepped up its violent detainment and deportation policies targeting immigrant New Yorkers across the state. ICE has joined police doing routine traffic stops and is stalking New Yorkers as they attend immigration court hearings and engaging in violent arrests, creating a climate of chaos and fear.
“We cannot stand idly by while our constituents and colleagues are ensnared by the Trump Administration’s mass deportation dragnet. New York must be clear that it will establish critical guardrails to prevent local and state resources from being used for Trump’s mass deportation agenda and that our local and state agencies will not conspire with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP). NY4All ensures just that,” the Congressional letter says. “We urge the New York State Legislature to reject Trump’s efforts to scapegoat our most vulnerable neighbors as a pretense for dismantling our core democratic institutions. At the same time, we are committed to protecting New York against efforts to take away federal funding for critical services in retaliation for opposing this administration’s policies.”
The Representatives who signed said they are committed to supporting New Yorkers navigating the immigration system.
“We will fight back together, and we will persevere.”
The members of Congress join scores of civil rights and immigrant advocates, domestic violence survivors, labor unions, and community organizations across the state who are urging Albany lawmakers to pass NY4All this week to protect the rights and safety of all New Yorkers.
